Canberra does not have a traffic problem. It has an approvals problem
Nearly every course assumes you can change a page this afternoon. Inside a department, a university or a board governed not for profit, you cannot. The technique is identical. Getting it published is the hard part, and no syllabus we have seen bothers with that at all. Anyone who has watched a corrected title tag sit in a review queue for six weeks while a director asks why the page is still fourteenth knows exactly how that feels.
There is a second thing rarely said aloud. A large share of accessibility work and technical search work are the same work. Heading order, link text, document structure and page weight serve both at once. Framing search optimisation that way is frequently how it gets approved, and there is real relief in the room when a team realises the work it has been refused twice can be funded once under a different name.

Which Canberra you are in changes the first hour
Canberra is not one market. Barton and Parkes are departments and peak bodies, publishing on GovCMS, the whole of government Drupal platform, under the Digital Service Standard and its WCAG accessibility requirement, with a caretaker period before every election in which almost nothing new goes live. Woden, Belconnen and Tuggeranong hold the large service delivery agencies, where the search that matters is for a form, a program name or a payment, and the person searching already knows the term. The ANU and the University of Canberra run their own platforms on a student recruitment calendar that peaks twice a year. Gungahlin and Fyshwick are ordinary local SEO: growing suburbs, trades, retail customers, a map pack and reviews, closer to Perth than to Parliament House in how they behave.
Each of those changes what we teach first. A department team gets metadata, document structure and the two budgets argument, because content governance is already strong and structure is the gap. A university team gets search intent by course and by intake date. A Gungahlin business gets Google Business Profile, local citations and location pages. The syllabus below is the whole list; the order comes from where you sit. The calendar matters too. June is when unspent training budgets appear, and a booking by the hour fits whatever is left. It also sits a long way below $125,000, the value at which the Commonwealth Procurement Rules have required an open approach to market for non corporate entities since November 2025, which is one reason a published hourly figure clears faster than a proposal.
What the badges are for, in procurement terms
Procurement templates ask for industry body membership, evidence of certification and independent recognition, so here is what each of ours does rather than a row of logos.

What actually slows a public sector site down
Three ways a team books the hours
Instructor led and live, online across Australia, or in house for a booking of more than a week with flights and accommodation covered. An hour, a half day or a one day workshop, with no fixed intake dates. Beginners and career changers attend alongside experienced officers, and we pitch at the room.

Not in Canberra?
The figure travels. The argument on each page does not, because no two of these markets behave alike.
