Google Ads Perth Managed on Cost Per Lead, Not Clicks

Google Ads (previously Google AdWords) is the quickest way to the top of Google’s search results, and the quickest way to waste money there. Perth Digital Edge is a Google Ads agency in Perth, based in Wanneroo, that builds campaigns on Google’s own data and judges them on cost per lead. We use data, we do not guess.

Where Google Ads Perth budgets quietly leak

Most underperforming Google Ads campaigns are not obviously broken. They spend the budget, collect clicks, and somebody sends through a report with a healthy click through rate on it. The leak sits between the click and the enquiry, where a standard report never looks.

The specifics are mundane, and the feeling when you find them is not. Broad match keywords picking up searches that were never going to buy. A negative keyword list written at launch and never touched, so a Joondalup plumber keeps paying for apprenticeship searches. Conversion tracking that counts a page view as a lead, so smart bidding has spent months optimising, faithfully and expensively, towards the wrong thing.

We have sat with owners at the moment they realise that. The first reaction is anger, because the money was real and the report was not. The second, once the first meeting with us opens with a cost per lead they can believe, is relief, and it is the part of this work we like most.

None of it is exotic. It is maintenance, which gets skipped when one person juggles too many accounts, so we keep the client list small and the people senior. Whether a Google Ads agency in Perth runs the lot or a specialist sits beside your own digital marketing team, the maintenance decides the result.

Search terms report, Perth trade account

The Google Ads campaigns we run, and when each earns its place

Google Ads operates on a pay per click (PPC) model: advertisers bid in an auction, your ad appears at the top of Google’s search engine results, where most Australian searches happen, when users search for what you sell, and unlike traditional advertising you pay only for the click. Every Perth Google Ads account starts with the campaigns closest to the money.

Google search ads

The core of most accounts. Someone actively searching for what you sell types the problem into Google and your ad appears in the search results. Highest intent, and where compelling ad copy earns the most.

Google Shopping ads

For retailers, the product feed does most of the targeting. Titles, attributes and images matter more than bids, so feed work comes before any budget increase.

Performance Max

Reach across Search, Shopping, YouTube, Display, Gmail and Maps with Google choosing the mix. Useful with clean conversion data and brand exclusions behind it, wasteful without them.

Google display ads and remarketing

Visual ads across the Google Display Network of partner websites and apps, mostly to bring back people who visited and left. Cheap relative to search clicks, and easy to overdo.

YouTube ads and Demand Gen

Video ads for a target audience you want to create demand in rather than only capture, with attribution that needs watching.

Call and local campaigns

For trades and clinics where the enquiry is a call, often from a mobile with an emergency behind it. Call only ads, location assets and a tight radius around the suburbs you service.

What Perth does to a Google Ads account

Most Google Ads strategy is written for the east coast and shipped west unchanged. Perth holds close to four in five West Australians along a hundred kilometres of coast, runs on its own clock and pays its own click prices, and an account built without knowing that leaks.

3pm

When a nine to five ad schedule set on Sydney time goes dark in Perth; 2pm in the eastern summer

WA has no daylight saving

One name, a hundred kilometres of coast

Two Rocks to Mandurah is well over a hundred kilometres, so a Joondalup plumber and a Mandurah plumber are not competitors and should not pay for each other’s suburbs. One radius around the CBD buys clicks from people who will never book you. We target the suburbs you service, targeting users based on where they are standing rather than where they have shown interest.

Perth searches by city name

Perth customers add the city to their searches: 2,500 a month for “electrician Perth” against 1,600 in Sydney, a city with twice the people. The Perth terms carry the volume and the suburb terms carry the intent, so each gets its own ad group, ad copy and a landing page naming the suburb, which in our experience earns the click over a national ad.

Dearer clicks, so fewer mistakes

Trade clicks in Perth cost more than the same click in Sydney: about US$7 for “electrician Perth” and “plumber Perth” against US$2.50 and US$5 over east. A Perth budget buys fewer mistakes, so the negative list and the ad schedule matter more here than the choice of bidding strategy.

The interstate bidders

Australian brands and national franchises bid into Perth auctions from Sydney and Melbourne with a generic landing page and an eastern ad schedule. You will not outspend them. You can beat them on ad relevance, location assets, a Perth phone number and a page that names the suburb, because the auction rewards relevance as well as money. Along the Kwinana strip, in Malaga and Welshpool, suppliers sell into mining and the sale closes weeks later in a CRM, so offline conversion import matters more than form fills.

Keyword match types and the negative list that protects your ad spend

Keywords determine when your ads show, and match types decide how loosely Google may interpret them. Exact match no longer means exact, phrase match covers more variants than most advertisers expect, and broad match keywords hand Google great latitude in exchange for reach. People still search for AdWords management out of habit; the platform was renamed years ago, but an account still running an AdWords campaign structure from that era is paying for searches nobody would have chosen.

Broad match with smart bidding is not automatically a bad idea. With clean conversion data and a mature list of negative keywords it finds profitable searches you would never have added; with an empty list it spends money on nothing. We open tighter on relevant keywords, prove which searches convert, then loosen deliberately.

The negative list is the unglamorous half of the job and does more for cost per lead than most bid adjustments. Job seekers, students, free, cheap, courses, salary and irrelevant keywords from neighbouring trades turn up in Perth accounts constantly. We review the search terms often at first, then on a set rhythm, and keep shared lists so a lesson from one Perth account protects the next.

How we build a Google Ads Perth account from scratch

Existing Google Ads account or new, the Google Ads process runs in the same order, and the second step is the one most often skipped.

01

Keyword research and forecast

Real volumes, competition and click costs for Western Australia from Keyword Planner and the Google Ads API, so the budget conversation starts from Google’s numbers.

02

Tracking before spend

Conversion actions defined, calls tracked, forms tested end to end in Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads. Nothing launches until a real enquiry registers correctly.

03

Campaign setup and ad creation

Search campaigns split by intent and margin, compelling ads that say what the page says, ad extensions carrying reviews, sitelinks and a Perth number, and a negative list built before the first click.

04

Optimise on evidence

Search terms, negatives, bids, daily budgets and ad copy reviewed on a set rhythm and changed only when the data says so, then gone through with you in a meeting that opens with cost per lead, never a report.

We do not guess. We give Google what it is asking for.

Most agencies work from third party tools and generic checklists. We plug straight into Google’s own data and build to what Google itself reports.

We connect directly to Google’s Search Console, Analytics, Ads and Natural Language APIs through Google Cloud, which very few agencies bother to do. We read real search demand, click costs and conversion data from Google’s own systems, then build the account to match them rather than guesses from third party tools.

Conversion tracking, cost per lead and return on ad spend

Almost every account we audit has a tracking problem: the same conversion counted twice, calls not tracked at all, or every button on the site registering as a conversion. Once the inputs are wrong, automated bidding faithfully optimises towards the wrong outcome.

Getting it right means one definition of a lead, then making sure only that gets counted, in Google Ads and Google Analytics 4 alike. The Home Base result below is what that is worth.

Cost per lead is the operating number for most Perth service businesses and return on ad spend the one for retailers, and neither means much until we know what a lead is worth to you.

Conversion actions defined

One definition of a lead, everything else secondary, so bidding optimises towards enquiries.

Call tracking

Calls from call assets and from the website both captured, with a length threshold so a wrong number is not a lead.

Enhanced conversions

First party data passed back securely, so conversions lost to browser restrictions still inform bidding.

Offline conversion import

Where the sale closes later, won jobs fed back from the CRM so the algorithm learns from revenue rather than form fills.

Targets you agreed to

A cost per lead or return on ad spend target set against your margins, so every meeting answers to a number.

The difference between a busy account and a profitable one

Two accounts can spend the same money in the same month and produce completely different outcomes. The difference is rarely the ad copy; it is what the account is allowed to call a result.

The usual approach

  • Reports that open with clicks and website traffic
  • Negative keyword list written once at launch
  • Every button click counted as a conversion
  • All paid traffic sent to the homepage

How we do it

  • Meetings, not reports, that open with cost per lead
  • Search terms reviewed on a rhythm
  • One agreed definition of a lead
  • A landing page matched to each ad group

Landing page and ad, side by side

Landing pages decide what your clicks are worth

There is a limit to what can be fixed inside the account, because what you get from Google Ads depends on the page as much as the bid. If the landing page loads slowly, buries the phone number and asks for ten form fields, the account looks expensive however well it is built. Paid traffic is unforgiving in a way organic website traffic is not: every bounce has been paid for.

The work is plain and often the highest return thing we do. Match the page to the promise in the ad copy, so someone who clicked an ad about emergency plumbing in Rockingham does not land on a general services page. One obvious action, a tappable number on mobile, a short form, reviews beside it, and speed checked against real Chrome user data from the PageSpeed and CrUX APIs.

It also feeds back into what you pay: ad relevance and landing page experience both feed Quality Score, which influences your cost per click and where you appear. It is where Google Ads and search engine optimisation meet, because a page built to convert qualified traffic from ads is usually the page that ranks.

Google Ads results from real Perth accounts

Different sectors, one approach: fix the tracking, tighten the structure, judge everything on what an enquiry costs.

Automotive · Perth WA

4×4 Extras

+161%

Active users, with key events up 186%

Result. Under our Google Ads management, active users rose 161 percent, key events 186 percent and course sales 29 percent, while cost per conversion fell 22 percent.

Why it matters. More customers and a lower cost for each of them at once is what a well run account produces.

Perth WA

Home Base

+182%

Conversions after a tracking fix, ad spend unchanged

Result. Conversions up 182 percent once the conversion tracking was repaired, 24 percent more conversion actions captured, no increase in ad spend.

Why it matters. The account was short of accurate data, not budget; every automated bid before the fix was made on the wrong information.

Recruitment · Perth WA

Sense Recruitment

+21.8%

Conversions, with no additional budget

Result. Conversions rose 21.8 percent on the existing budget, with nothing added to the media spend.

Why it matters. Job seekers and employers type nearly the same words, which makes recruitment a hard category. Growth on the same budget is what improving an account looks like.

From $1,500/mo

Our recommended minimum for Perth

Below this, in most Perth categories, there are too few clicks to learn from.

  • A daily budget you control and can pause
  • Raised only when the numbers justify it
  • Google Ads credit for qualifying new accounts, paid into your account, not ours

Media is billed by Google directly

Our Google Ads services run month to month with thirty days notice, the fee is quoted in writing first, and Google’s ad credits are a head start, not a result. Your advertising efforts are judged on one number each month: cost per lead.

Google Ads Perth, answered

We work it backwards. Keyword Planner tells us what clicks cost in your category in Western Australia; your close rate and job value tell us what a lead is worth. Between the two sits a daily budget that buys enough clicks to learn from; our recommended minimum in Perth is about $1,500 a month of media.

For most Perth businesses that run Google Ads properly, yes: judged on cost per lead, with a landing page that converts. It is immediate visibility and the cheapest way to test whether a new service or suburb has demand. Where the click price is high and the job value low, we will say so, and say when SEO is the better first spend.

It is one of the better fits: the intent is immediate, the searcher is often on a phone with a problem, and the enquiry is a call. The work sits in radius targeting around the suburbs you service, call assets and call tracking, and a negative list that keeps job seekers out.

Yes. We work inside your account under manager access, so if we part ways you keep the account, its history and its conversion data. Agencies that run clients inside an account they own leave you with nothing it has learned, and that should be a dealbreaker.

Ask whether you will get a meeting or a report, and what it opens with; if it is clicks, keep looking. Ask whether the fee moves with your spend, who does the work, and whether they hold Google Partner status, the Google Ads partner badge from the Google Partners program, granted on certification, account performance and spend under management rather than for a fee. The best Google Ads agency for you is the one whose claims you can check.
