Ecommerce SEO: An Ecommerce SEO Agency for Stores That Need Orders, Not Just Sessions
Ecommerce SEO is the work of getting a store’s category and product pages in front of people who are searching to buy, so the store sells without paying for every visit. Perth Digital Edge is an ecommerce SEO agency working with Shopify and WooCommerce stores in Perth and across Australia, from $2,000 a month, month to month, thirty days notice, no lock-in contract. The plan for each store comes from Google’s own records of which searches it already appears for and which pages already produce orders, because we use data, we do not guess.

What the search data says about ecommerce SEO
Store owners are looking for help in numbers. Ahrefs (Australia, September 2026) puts “ecommerce SEO” at around 2,000 searches a month, “ecommerce SEO agency” at around 1,800, “ecommerce SEO services” at around 1,300, “Shopify SEO agency” at around 800, “ecommerce SEO Perth” at around 600 and “ecommerce SEO Australia” at around 400. Nearly all of those searches show an AI overview, and the agency search adds a map pack. For “ecommerce SEO agency” the first organic result appears above the AI overview, so a store owner weighs an organic listing, a generated summary and a list of nearby agencies on the same page.
Those clicks are not cheap to buy. Ahrefs estimates about US$11 a click for “ecommerce SEO agency”, US$10 for “ecommerce SEO” and “ecommerce SEO services”, US$14 for “ecommerce SEO Australia” and US$7 for “Shopify SEO agency” and “ecommerce SEO Perth”. Difficulty is low across the set, with the Shopify and Perth terms both scored at zero, which means the pages currently ranking hold few links. The product searches you assume are out of reach are often held by pages just as weak.
Three kinds of page, three different jobs
A store has three kinds of page that can rank, and they behave differently. Category pages, called collections on Shopify, compete for the broad buying searches: “linen sheets Australia”, “garage door remotes”, “gluten free meal delivery Perth”. They need real copy around the product grid, a sensible number of products, filters that do not spawn duplicates, and internal links from the navigation and related categories.
Product pages compete for the specific searches: brand, model, size, colour, the long tail where the buyer already knows what they want. They need a description written for your store rather than the manufacturer’s paragraph shared with forty other retailers, specifications, real photographs, reviews, and product structured data so Google can show price, availability and rating in the results. Google’s documentation is specific about that markup: the price and availability in the code must match what the shopper sees.
Support content, the buying guides, comparisons and care instructions, competes for the research searches and links down to the categories it supports, which does more for those collections than another paragraph of keyword filler.
Then there is faceted navigation, where most stores quietly waste Google’s attention. Every combination of size, colour, brand and price filter creates a URL, and left alone Google crawls thousands of near identical pages while the pages that sell wait their turn. Google’s guidance is to decide which facets deserve indexing, because people search for “navy linen sheets” but not for “linen sheets sorted by price descending”, then canonicalise or block the rest. We make those decisions facet by facet, from your own search data.
Shopify and WooCommerce behave differently
Shopify fixes the URL structure: collections, products, pages and blogs each live in their own folder. A product reached through a collection path carries a canonical tag back to its main product URL by default, which is correct, but collection tag filters create indexable pages of their own and product variants and pagination need attention. The robots file can be edited, theme and app scripts weigh heavily on Core Web Vitals, and redirects are handled inside the platform. Shopify SEO is largely about working well within those constraints.
WooCommerce sits on WordPress, so almost everything is adjustable, and that is both its strength and its risk. Product category and tag archives are created automatically, attribute archives can be switched on, layered navigation filters produce query string URLs, plugins add markup and weight in equal measure, and hosting quality decides speed. We build on WooCommerce through our web design work and work with existing Shopify stores, and the recommendations differ because the platforms differ. A store with a physical showroom also needs local SEO for its Google Business Profile, which runs alongside.
Google’s own data for an online store
Search Console API
The standard Search Console report stops at a fixed number of rows, and for a store with hundreds of products that hides most of the long tail. Through the Search Console API on Google Cloud we pull every query for every URL, which is how we find a collection page ranking for a product term while the product page ranks for nothing, or product pages earning impressions for searches their descriptions never mention.
Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics 4 adds the ecommerce events: which landing pages produce add to cart actions and purchases, not merely sessions.
Keyword Planner via the Google Ads API
Keyword Planner figures, drawn through the Google Ads API, give Google’s own volumes and click costs for your product terms, so we know what an organic position is worth against the Shopping click you would otherwise buy.
Natural Language API
The Natural Language API shows the entities Google reads from a category page, which is how we learn that a bedding collection reads as a brand story rather than as linen, sheets and Australia.
PageSpeed Insights and Chrome UX Report
PageSpeed Insights, with Chrome UX Report field data, shows how the store performs on the phones your customers shop from, theme weight and app scripts included. That is how an ecommerce SEO agency can tell you which forty product pages are one improvement away from page one, instead of sending a checklist.
Our ecommerce SEO services
Store audit and crawl control
A full crawl of the store set against the Search Console data to find indexed URLs that earn nothing, filter pages consuming crawl budget, duplicate product URLs, thin categories, broken redirects and missing canonicals, with a prioritised fix list.
Category and collection structure
Mapping every category and subcategory to the searches it should own, adding real copy where it helps, fixing the hierarchy so authority flows from the homepage to the pages that sell, and consolidating collections that compete with each other.
Product page content and schema
Unique descriptions written around the questions buyers ask, specification tables, review markup and product structured data that matches the page, so the listing can show price, stock and rating in Google’s results.
Faceted navigation and duplicates
Decisions on which filters to index, which to canonicalise and which to block, applied consistently so Google spends its crawl on pages that convert.
Buying guides and support content
Research content planned from Keyword Planner and Search Console data, written plainly and linked to the categories it supports.
Link building for stores
References earned from supplier stockist pages, industry publications, gift guides and useful content, never purchased placements. Our link building page explains how.
Revenue meetings
No report to read. We meet with you and cover organic revenue, orders and landing pages from GA4, rankings by category and what happens next.
Where AI answers fit for an online store
Research questions about products and prices now often show an AI generated answer, while buying searches still go to the results and shopping listings. Ahrefs (Australia, September 2026) shows the split: “how much does teeth whitening cost” (around 450 searches a month) carries an AI overview, while “best dentist Perth” (around 150) does not. The store that explains its products plainly earns the research citation; the store with good product pages earns the sale.
The closest thing to a catalogue on our books is Westside Auto Wholesale, a Perth used car dealership with more than 300 pages cited in AI answers. On 11 September 2026 Ahrefs counted 2,311 AI answer citations of westsideauto.com.au from 308 distinct pages: 480 in Google AI Overviews from 108 pages, 286 in Perplexity from 76 pages and 88 in ChatGPT from 54 pages. That is what happens when pages across a site are each built to be quotable. Nobody can promise a store a citation, and we do not; we build product and category pages that way and track AI citations in Ahrefs beside rankings each month, which we talk through with you when we meet. Our AI search optimisation page has the detail, and our technical SEO page covers the crawl side.
Results from stores and transactional sites
Wholistically Healthy, a Perth health meal delivery business selling online, ran SEO, web design, content and link building with us. Organic traffic rose 118 percent and conversions rose 51 percent. The owner’s review below describes the first six months.
4Healthcare, a Perth healthcare business, had its site redeveloped onto an ecommerce platform, a difficult migration in the client’s own words, and went from low rankings to high ones with sales and return on investment up, as the review below records.
Sell My Car Pro, a Perth car buying service, is transactional rather than a shop: the conversion is a completed valuation. After website development, SEO and branding, new users rose 320 percent, 168 keywords reached page one in the first 90 days with more than 60 held since, and valuation tool completions rose 285 percent; the client says results started before any money went into ads.
Westside Auto Wholesale, the dealership above, has been a long term client across SEO, content, web design and Google Ads, and describes a dramatic enhancement in its rankings and traffic in its own review.
What ecommerce SEO costs
Store size sets the price more than anything else: a few hundred products in one range is a different job from a catalogue of thousands with national competitors. Both start with a free audit and run month to month with thirty days notice.
Set the monthly figure against what you pay per click for the same product searches in Shopping ads, and the arithmetic is usually straightforward.
How an ecommerce SEO campaign runs
Month one
Discovery. We connect the Search Console and Analytics APIs, crawl the store, map categories and products to searches, review the faceted navigation and platform settings, and benchmark against the stores holding your target positions. You see the findings and the plan before anything changes.
Months two to six
Foundations. Crawl and duplicate fixes go first, because they lift every page. Then collection structure, product content and schema for the ranges with the most value in Keyword Planner, buying guides for the research searches, and the first earned links. When we meet, we go through organic revenue and rankings by category with you, not a task list or a report.
Month seven onward
Expansion. Ranges that moved are widened, new content is planned from the queries the Search Console API shows growing, and link earning continues. Seasonal ranges are prepared months ahead so they are indexed and ready before demand arrives rather than after it.
Real reviews. A selection from our Google and Clutch reviews, each one exactly as the client wrote it. Read them on Google.
