Technical SEO: A Technical SEO Agency That Measures Your Site the Way Google Does
Technical SEO is everything that lets Google find, render, understand and rank the pages on a website: crawling, indexing, site structure, speed, mobile performance and structured data. Perth Digital Edge is a technical SEO agency in Wanneroo that audits and repairs those foundations, either as a one-off technical SEO audit billed from $150 an hour plus GST or inside an SEO campaign from $2,000 a month, with no lock-in in either case. Every finding is a measurement rather than an opinion: we use data, we do not guess. The measurements are Google’s, from the PageSpeed Insights API, the Chrome UX Report and Search Console’s own record of what Google has crawled and indexed.

What technical SEO covers, in plain words
Before Google can rank a page it has to do four things. Find the page, by following links or reading a sitemap. Fetch and render it, including anything JavaScript adds after the first load. Decide whether to index it, which it will not do if the page is blocked, duplicated, redirected badly or judged too thin. And understand what the page is about and how it relates to the rest of the site. Technical SEO is the work of removing every obstacle on that path.
The symptoms are familiar: pages that never appear in Search Console, service pages outranked by the homepage, rankings that fell the week a new plugin went live, traffic that never recovered after a redesign. Content and links cannot fix those. A technical SEO audit finds the cause, and the fix is usually specific and cheap next to another six months of content on a site that cannot rank.
Core Web Vitals, and what Google counts as good
Google publishes three Core Web Vitals and a threshold for each one. Largest Contentful Paint, the time until the main content has loaded, should be 2.5 seconds or less. Interaction to Next Paint, the delay between a tap or click and the screen responding, should be 200 milliseconds or less. Cumulative Layout Shift, how much the page jumps about while loading, should be 0.1 or less. Google assesses each metric at the 75th percentile of a page’s visits, separately for mobile and desktop, so a page passes only when three quarters of real visits meet the mark.
PageSpeed Insights reports two kinds of data. The lab score is a single simulated load on a test device. The field data comes from the Chrome UX Report, gathered from real Chrome users over the previous 28 days, and it is the field data that Google’s page experience signals and the Core Web Vitals report in Search Console rely on. A site can post a lab score in the nineties and still fail in the field because its real visitors use older phones on slower connections. We work from the field data first, use the lab data to find the cause, then confirm the fix in the field.
What the search data says about technical SEO
Ahrefs (Australia, September 2026) shows “technical SEO agency” at about 900 searches a month, “technical SEO” at about 600, “technical SEO audit” at about 400, “technical SEO consultant” at about 300 and “technical SEO services” at about 200. “Technical SEO Perth” draws only about 60, because this is a national service.
The click costs are high. Ahrefs estimates about US$15 a click on a Google ad for “technical SEO agency”, US$10 for “technical SEO audit” and “technical SEO services”, and US$7 for “technical SEO” and “technical SEO consultant”. Four of the five terms show an AI overview, so the definition and checklist questions are answered by AI before a provider is chosen; “technical SEO agency” shows a map pack instead.
Google’s data, applied to the technical layer
A crawler shows a site as a crawler sees it. Google’s APIs, accessed through Google Cloud, show it as Google sees it, the only view that ranks.
Search Console API
From the Search Console API we take the complete query and page record, plus the URL inspection endpoint, which reports for any URL whether Google has indexed it, which canonical it chose and when it last crawled.
Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics 4 shows whether the pages that load fastest also convert best.
Keyword Planner via the Google Ads API
Keyword Planner, through the Google Ads API, ranks templates by the value of the searches they serve, so the category template gets fixed before the blog template.
Natural Language API
The Natural Language API is run on the rendered page rather than the source, which catches content Google’s renderer never sees.
PageSpeed Insights and Chrome UX Report
And the PageSpeed Insights API returns both the lab diagnosis and the Chrome UX Report field data for every template on the site.
Our technical SEO services
Technical SEO audit
A full crawl, Search Console coverage and Core Web Vitals reports, server logs where available, and a prioritised list of findings with the fix, the effort and the expected effect for each, written so a developer can act on it without us in the room.
Crawling and indexing
Robots directives, XML sitemaps, canonical tags, noindex rules, redirect chains, orphan pages, faceted and parameter URLs, and crawl budget on larger sites.
Site architecture and internal links
A structure where every important page sits within a few clicks of the homepage, the pages that earn receive the most internal links, and no two pages compete for the same search.
Speed and Core Web Vitals
Server response, caching, image formats and sizing, font loading, script deferral, third party tags and layout stability, measured before and after in the field with Chrome UX Report data.
Structured data
Schema for your organisation, services, products, FAQs and articles, plus the local business schema that supports local SEO, validated and kept current so Google can read what each page is rather than infer it.
Rebuilds and migrations
When the platform itself is the problem, we plan the redirect map, preserve the URLs and links that carry value, and check indexing daily after launch. We build the replacement ourselves, as part of our web design work.
Results where the technical layer did the work
Perth Roofing Contractors, a Perth roofing business, had its brand and website rebuilt from the ground up. The new site scores above 95 on Google PageSpeed and loads in under two seconds on average, and website enquiries rose 240 percent after launch.
Castle Security, which installs security systems in Perth, had its site rebuilt before the SEO, content and link building were layered on: 109 keywords on page one, traffic up 364 percent, key events up 185 percent, and about 15,000 organic visitors a year. The client’s short verdict is below.
Project Concrete, a concreter in Perth, launched a new site with SEO and link building built in from day one rather than bolted on later: 62 conversions and 14 page one keywords in the first month, and organic traffic up 312 percent within three months.
Hannah George’s site was rebuilt completely and the faults it had carried were fixed in the process; her account is below.
What technical SEO costs
Technical work is priced two ways: by the hour for a one-off audit, or inside a monthly campaign where we carry out the fixes and keep watching afterward. No minimum term, no lock-in, and the free audit of the basics comes first.
A small business site usually needs a short audit and a short list of fixes; a site with thousands of URLs needs the campaign, because its technical layer changes every time someone publishes.
How technical SEO work runs
Month one
The audit. We crawl the site, pull Search Console coverage and Core Web Vitals field data through the API, inspect the important URLs, review server logs where we can get them, and rank every finding by impact and effort. You receive the list before anything is touched.
Months two to six
The fixes, in order. Indexing and crawl faults first, because nothing else matters until Google can reach the page; then structure and internal links; then speed and Core Web Vitals template by template; then structured data. Each change is checked in Search Console and, for performance, confirmed in the field data.
Month seven onward
Monitoring. Sites drift as plugins update and pages get published, so Search Console coverage and Chrome UX Report trends are reviewed every month, with a fresh crawl after any platform change.
Technical SEO and AI answers
AI answers can only cite what they can read. A page that depends on JavaScript to show its main content, or is blocked from crawlers, is harder for Google’s AI Overviews and ChatGPT to quote, whatever the quality of the writing. The technical layer is the entry ticket.
The largest example on our books is Westside Auto Wholesale, a used car dealership in Perth and a long term client. Ahrefs’ count for westsideauto.com.au on 11 September 2026 was 2,311 AI answer citations spread over 308 pages, with Google AI Overviews supplying 480, Perplexity 286 and ChatGPT 88. A site cannot earn citations from 308 pages unless those pages can be crawled and read. Our own site, at 301 citations from 44 pages on the same date, is measured the same way, as is every client’s, monthly. A citation is not something anyone can promise; we make sure nothing technical stands in the way, and we put the count in front of you in a meeting, not a report. The rest of the method sits on our AI search optimisation page.
