SEO For Lawyers: Law Firm SEO Services That Turn Searches Into Clients
SEO for lawyers is the work of making a law firm appear in Google’s map pack and organic results when someone searches for a family lawyer, a criminal lawyer, a conveyancer or an employment lawyer in their city. Perth Digital Edge provides lawyer SEO services for firms in Perth and across Australia from $2,000 a month with no lock-in contract. Every campaign is built on data we draw directly from Google’s own APIs, because we use data, we do not guess.

What Law Firm SEO Involves
A person looking for a lawyer rarely knows a firm’s name. They search for the problem: “divorce lawyer Perth”, “unfair dismissal lawyer”, “conveyancing Fremantle”. Google answers with a map pack of three nearby firms, then organic results, and for many legal questions an AI generated summary above both. Law firm SEO is the work of appearing in all three for the practice areas and suburbs you serve. Most legal searches start this way: potential clients search for the problem rather than a firm name, and the firms that appear in those search results are the ones that get the call.
Search engines rank the firms they can trust, so legal websites are judged on expertise as much as on keywords.

In practice that means four things, done properly and kept current.
What Perth Legal Searches Look Like
Legal searches in Perth are not the biggest in volume, but each one represents a matter worth thousands of dollars in fees, which is why the map pack for every one of them is crowded. Ahrefs (Australia, September 2026) shows “family lawyer Perth” and “divorce lawyer Perth” at around 500 searches a month each, “conveyancing Perth” at around 400, “criminal lawyer Perth” at around 350 and “employment lawyer Perth” at around 300. All of them show a map pack and a set of related questions.
Ahrefs estimates the cost per click on Google ads for those terms at about A$8.60 for “criminal lawyer Perth” and “conveyancing Perth”, A$5.00 for “family lawyer Perth” and “divorce lawyer Perth”, and A$3.60 for “employment lawyer Perth”. Those clicks have to be bought again every month. A practice area page that holds a top three organic position for the same searches delivers the same enquiries without the meter running, which is why firms that started SEO years ago now hold the positions everyone else is bidding for. That is why SEO for legal services is best treated as a long term investment rather than a campaign that stops when the budget does.
Lawyer SEO Built On Google’s Own Data
Most agencies work from third party tools and the default reports inside Search Console. We go to Google directly, through Google Cloud and Google’s APIs, and for a law firm that changes what can be seen.
It is Google’s own data, used directly. Instead of guessing which practice area to build first, we know which searches the firm is already close to winning. It is also the straightest answer to the question most legal firms put to an SEO agency first: where will the next paying clients come from?
Being Cited By AI Answers For Legal Questions
Legal research questions have already moved into AI answers. Ahrefs (Australia, September 2026) shows an AI overview on “how much does a family lawyer cost” and “how much does a divorce cost in Australia” (around 200 searches a month each), and one sits above the results for this page’s own search. The hiring searches have not followed: “best family lawyer Perth” (around 200) still resolves to a map pack and a discussion thread. The person asking what a divorce costs meets an AI answer first; the person choosing a lawyer meets the map. A firm has to be present in both, and the first shapes who reaches the second.
The pages AI answers cite are the pages that rank: a direct plain language answer at the top, the practice area described the way a client describes their problem, entities Google can read (our Natural Language API check confirms this), structured data true to the page, consistent firm details across the legal directories and a strong review profile. For a law firm the discipline is the same as it is for advertising compliance: state what is true, plainly, and let the structure carry it. Every practice area page and article we write is built to be quotable as well as rankable.
Our own site is the evidence that the approach works. Ahrefs counted 301 citations of perthdigitaledge.com.au across the AI platforms on 11 September 2026, from 44 pages: 73 in ChatGPT, 52 in Google AI Overviews, 41 in Perplexity, 37 in Google AI Mode, 17 in Gemini and 8 in Copilot. We cannot promise a firm a place inside an AI answer, and no one can. We build for it, track the firm’s AI citations in Ahrefs beside its rankings, and go through both with you in our meetings. Our AI search optimisation page sets out the method.
SEO Services For Lawyers, Practice Area By Practice Area
Six pieces of work, applied practice area by practice area.
Keyword research and intent mapping come first.
A family law partner assumes clients search “family law solicitor”. Some do, but far more search “family lawyer” and “divorce lawyer near me”. We map every practice area to the terms people use, and separate the searches that signal research (“what is unfair dismissal”) from the ones that signal hiring (“employment lawyer Perth”). Both belong in the strategy, on different pages. A personal injury lawyer and a conveyancer need completely different keyword sets, and search tools built in the US muddy things further by suggesting terms like “attorney SEO”, “family law attorney”, “estate planning attorney” or “criminal justice attorney”. Australians rarely search that way, so we translate those suggestions into the lawyer, solicitor and criminal defence searches people in Perth actually type, then confirm the volumes in Keyword Planner before any page goes into the SEO strategy.
On page SEO and content give each practice area a dedicated page with its own title, description and substance.
The highest converting legal pages we build answer questions in plain language: how long a divorce takes in Australia, what happens at a property settlement in WA, what to do after receiving a letter from the ATO. Your audience is not a barrister. It is a person whose marriage has ended or who has been injured at work. Each page gets a title tag and meta description written for the search it targets, a clean URL such as /family-law/property-settlement/ and a clear call to action that turns a reader into a consultation request: a phone number, a short enquiry form and a plain line about what happens at the first meeting. On page optimisation is not keyword stuffing. Repeating “divorce lawyer Perth” ten times makes a page harder to read and easier for Google to discount.
Law firm websites often carry years of redirect chains and duplicate pages from old rebuilds.
Technical SEO and site architecture make sure Google can crawl, index and rank the pages: speed, mobile layout, Core Web Vitals, redirect chains, duplicate content, structured data. We organise the site so that authority flows from hub pages to the specific matters beneath them. Site speed matters most of all, because a distressed person on a phone will not wait, so we aim for pages that load in under three seconds on mobile. The site must run on HTTPS, since Chrome labels any page without it “Not Secure”, which is the last thing someone sharing private details wants to see. Structured data then tells Google which practice areas the firm covers, where its offices are and which lawyers hold which accreditations.
Local SEO and the Google Business Profile decide whether the firm appears in the map pack for its suburbs.
We complete every field, set the correct categories, add real photos, build a review request process and clean up citations across legal and business directories so the address and phone number match everywhere. Local search is where most new matters are won or lost, which makes local SEO important even for a legal practice that takes clients from across the state. Local citations are online mentions of the firm’s name, address and phone number, and they only help when every one of them matches. Google reviews carry as much weight: prospective clients read them before they call, a stronger rating lifts clicks from the map pack, and a measured reply to every review shows the firm is paying attention. When replying, never confirm that the reviewer is a client, because confidentiality applies online too. It is the same local optimisation that works for all the local businesses we look after, adjusted for a regulated profession.
Links and authority come from the listings your firm is entitled to, such as the Law Society of Western Australia’s directory, bar associations for barristers and reputable legal directories, from articles contributed to accounting, HR and property publications on topics where your practice areas overlap, and from content worth referencing.
We do not buy links. Backlinks remain one of the strongest ranking factors for law firm SEO, but only high quality backlinks from relevant, trusted sites help. The best are earned by useful content: a clear guide to property settlement in WA gets referenced, while a thin page written around a keyword does not.
We meet with the firm instead of sending reports, and the meeting stays specific: enquiries by practice area, keyword positions, traffic and the cost of an organic enquiry compared with a paid one.
We track consultation requests and phone calls by practice area, because enquiries and retained clients, not traffic or search rankings alone, are how SEO success is measured for a firm.
Content That Builds Authority, Not Volume
Google classes legal content as Your Money or Your Life material, because poor advice can cost someone their home, their children or their freedom. Pages on those topics are held to a higher standard of experience, expertise and trust, so SEO for law firms rewards authority rather than volume. Many law firms still publish a stream of thin blog posts; one practice area guide that a partner has reviewed and put their name to does more than all of them.
We build content in topic clusters. A family law hub links to guides on divorce, parenting orders and property settlement, and each guide links back, so Google sees depth on one subject rather than scattered posts. Blogging still earns its place when it answers what people type before they need legal help, such as how long probate takes in WA or what a family violence restraining order involves. Those readers meet the firm early, and the practice area gains topical authority with every useful answer.
Good content also does much of the link building. Australian law firms that publish genuinely useful guides get cited by journalists, councils and community organisations, which is a kind of reference no listing can buy. The firm reads as legal counsel worth trusting before the first call, it wins more clients, and the legal clients who do call have already read how the firm thinks.
Advertising Rules For Law Practices
Legal advertising in Western Australia is governed by the professional conduct rules that apply to Australian legal practitioners. Advertising must not be false, misleading or deceptive, must not claim specialist status or accreditation the practitioner does not hold, and must not promise outcomes. We write within those rules and every page is signed off by the firm before it is published. We are marketers, not lawyers, and we do not pretend otherwise, which is exactly why the copy stays on the right side of the line. Privacy deserves the same care. Enquiry forms collect sensitive details, so they need a privacy notice, secure handling and no tracking scripts that pass personal information to third parties.

Results From Professional Services Clients
Finance, recruitment, accounting and counselling: different fields, the same discipline of tracking, structure and pages built around how people search.
Perth Tax Pro, a full service Perth accounting firm, engaged us for a website built around five service specific pages, then SEO, content and link building, and describes the process in its Google review as one where the pros and cons of every decision, and the expected timeframe for results, were explained ahead of time.
Real reviews. A selection from our Google and Clutch reviews, each one exactly as the client wrote it. Read them on Google.
What Lawyer SEO Costs
Law is among the more competitive fields for search, so firms with several practice areas usually sit in the upper range. Engagements run month to month with thirty days notice, and each begins with a free audit so the quote reflects your market rather than a sales target.
How A Law Firm SEO Campaign Runs
Three phases, the same for every client, with the timeline set from your data rather than a pitch.
