Electrician SEO: SEO for Electricians Who Want Switchboard, RCD and Rewiring Jobs From Google

Electrician SEO puts an electrical contractor in front of the people searching for an electrician, an emergency electrician, a switchboard upgrade or RCD testing in the suburbs it covers, in Google’s map pack and in the results below it. Perth Digital Edge provides SEO for electricians across Perth from $2,000 a month with no lock-in contract. The campaign is planned from Google’s own data, taken straight from Google’s APIs, because we use data, we do not guess.

What electrician SEO is

Electrical work is hyper local and often urgent. A tripping switchboard at nine at night in Joondalup produces a search for “emergency electrician” and a call to one of the three businesses in the map pack. A planned job, a switchboard upgrade, a rewire, a new circuit for a spa or an EV charger, produces a search that reads pages before it calls. Electrician SEO wins the map pack in the suburbs you cover and ranks a dedicated page for each of the planned jobs that carry the value.

That takes a Google Business Profile that is complete, well reviewed and consistent with every directory listing, a properly detailed page per service with the phone number in view, a site that performs on a handset, and content that answers the questions Perth homeowners actually ask about their wiring.

The numbers behind Perth electrical searches

Ahrefs (Australia, September 2026) shows “electrician Perth” at around 2,500 searches a month, “emergency electrician Perth” at around 600, and “switchboard upgrade Perth” and “RCD testing Perth” at around 200 each. The first two show a map pack. The switchboard and RCD searches now show AI generated overviews, which draw on pages that explain the job plainly, and that is an opening for a contractor with the right content.

The cost of buying those clicks is the highest of any Perth trade we track. Ahrefs estimates about A$12.90 a click for “emergency electrician Perth”, A$10.00 for “electrician Perth” and “switchboard upgrade Perth”, and A$4.30 for “RCD testing Perth”. Every organic click replaces one of those, which is why electrician SEO pays back faster than almost any other trade once the map pack moves.

WA compliance content that ranks

Electrical work in Western Australia comes with rules that homeowners search for, and most electrician websites ignore them. A home being sold or leased in WA must have at least two RCDs fitted. Mains powered smoke alarms are required before a sale or lease. Electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor, and the customer must receive an electrical safety certificate for notifiable work. Older suburbs have older wiring, and the questions that come with it.

Pages that explain those requirements in plain language, with what the job involves and what affects the price, rank for the long tail of searches your competitors ignore and are exactly the pages AI overviews draw from. They also convert, because a person who has just learned they need two RCDs before settlement wants an electrician who clearly knows the rule.

Google’s data, not guesswork

Third party rank trackers estimate. Google’s own APIs, which we access through Google Cloud, report. We build electrician campaigns on the second.

The outcome is a plan built on what Google already knows about your business: the suburb searches within reach, and the jobs that carry the value, before anything is written.

From Search Console’s API we take the full record of searches your site has shown up for, down to the page and the suburb, well past the cut off in the standard reports. That is how a contractor learns it is already sitting at position eleven for “switchboard upgrade Wanneroo” with no switchboard page on the site.

From Analytics 4 we take the calls and enquiries each service produced and the hour they arrived.

From the Ads API we take Google’s own volumes and click costs for every electrical service, which decides that the switchboard page gets written before the ceiling fan page.

From the Natural Language API we take Google’s reading of each page, which tells us whether the switchboard page is understood as “switchboard upgrade”, “RCD” and “Perth” or as a generic company description.

From PageSpeed Insights, with Chrome UX Report measurements from real visitors, we learn whether the site loads on a phone before a customer standing in the dark gives up on it.

AI overviews already answer switchboard and RCD searches

Electrical is one of the few trades where the AI answer has reached the job search itself. Ahrefs (Australia, September 2026) shows an AI overview on “switchboard upgrade Perth” and “RCD testing Perth” (around 200 searches a month each), searches that name the city and the job. The urgent searches have not moved: “electrician Perth” and “emergency electrician Perth” still open on a map pack, and “best electrician Perth” shows no AI answer. A homeowner reads the AI overview to understand what a switchboard upgrade involves, then chooses a contractor from the map or the results beneath it.

That is why the compliance content on this page matters twice. The pages AI overviews cite are plain, specific and structured: a direct answer at the top, the WA rules stated accurately, the job described the way a homeowner describes it, entities Google can read (our Natural Language API check confirms this), markup that matches what the page says, consistent business details and a strong review profile. A switchboard page written that way ranks for the planned search, is the kind of source the AI overview quotes, and converts the reader who now knows they need two RCDs before settlement.

Our own site shows the method working. On 11 September 2026 Ahrefs counted 301 citations of perthdigitaledge.com.au across the AI platforms, from 44 pages: 73 in ChatGPT, 52 in Google AI Overviews, 41 in Perplexity, 37 in Google AI Mode, 17 in Gemini and 8 in Copilot. We do not promise a contractor a place inside an AI answer, because nobody can. We build the pages the way those answers cite them, and your AI citations in Ahrefs come up next to your rankings when we meet with you. Our AI search optimisation page has the detail.

Our electrician SEO service inclusions

Seven pieces of work, run as one system, with the WA rules written into the content.

Keyword research and competitor analysis start from Google’s own numbers for your market, add seasonal patterns such as air conditioning wiring in spring and storm related callouts in winter, and study which contractors hold the map pack in each suburb and how they got there.

Content creation gives each service its own page: switchboard upgrades, rewiring, RCD and safety switch work, smoke alarm compliance, lighting, data cabling, EV charger installation, electrical maintenance. Each page includes what the job involves, the WA rules that apply, what affects the price and what the customer can expect on the day.

Content optimisation and meta tags keep the pages competitive as positions and click through rates move, with natural language rather than the keyword stuffing that Google penalises.

Internal linking and URL structure move authority from articles to the service pages that generate calls, with proper redirects for any URL that changes.

Technical SEO, page speed and mobile fix the faults that hold rankings down: slow mobile load times, crawl errors, duplicate pages, missing structured data for your business, services and reviews.

Links and authority come from local business directories, trade associations, suppliers, community organisations and local coverage, earned with useful content. We do not buy links, because the penalty takes longer to reverse than the authority takes to build.

Meetings, not reports, connect the work to jobs: we go through which services and suburbs produce enquiries, what the cost of an organic enquiry is compared with a paid one, and what happens next.

Results from Perth trade and security clients

The closest match to an electrical contractor on our books is a security installer, because it shares the customers, the suburbs and the search behaviour. Castle Security, which installs security systems across Perth, had its site rebuilt and an SEO, content and link building program run on top. Organic traffic rose 364 percent, key events rose 185 percent, 109 searches reached page one and the site now draws around 15,000 organic visitors a year.

PSS Perth Security Services, another Perth security business, engaged us for SEO. The client’s account of the effort that went into its rankings is in the review below.

The pattern holds across the trades. FencrGatr, a Perth fencing and gates company, lifted enquiries 215 percent on the back of a 312 percent rise in organic traffic and more than 90 page one searches. Project Concrete, a Perth concreter, recorded 62 conversions in the first month of a new site and campaign and a 312 percent traffic rise within three months.

What electrician SEO costs

An electrician quotes before starting a job, and so do we, after a free audit of your site and your suburbs. The ranges below are published so you can budget first. There is no contract term to serve out; thirty days notice ends the engagement.

Ways to work with us Built for Cost
Free audit and strategy call Any electrical contractor who wants to know where it stands first No charge
Single-area electrician SEO A sole trader or small crew working one part of Perth $2,000 to $2,800 a month
Metro electrician SEO Multi-van contractors covering the metro area or many services, including content and link building $3,000 to $5,500 a month
Emergency term Google Ads After hours and fault calls while the map pack position is still building Priced to your budget, managed separately
Electrician SEO training An owner or office manager who wants to handle the basics in-house From $150 plus GST

With emergency electrician clicks costing around A$13 each, a map pack position in a handful of suburbs pays for the campaign by itself, and the switchboard, rewiring and compliance pages add the higher value planned jobs on top.

SEO or Google Ads for an electrician?

Both, in most cases, and in a specific order. Ads on emergency terms produce calls tonight while the profile and reviews build. SEO takes the planned jobs and, over months, the map pack for your suburbs. As organic positions strengthen, the ad budget comes down and is reinvested into content and links. The contractor who does only ads is renting. The one who does only SEO waits longer than necessary for the phone to ring. The sequence gets both.

Frequently asked questions

SEO for an electrical business is the work of appearing in Google’s map pack and organic results when people search for an electrician or an electrical service in your area. It covers the Google Business Profile, service pages, technical performance, content about the jobs and the WA rules around them, and links that build authority.

For a single-area electrical business, between $2,000 and $2,800 a month with us; for a metro wide or multi-service contractor, between $3,000 and $5,500 a month. No lock-in, and a free audit before any quote so the figure reflects your market.

Evolving. Map packs and organic results still answer most electrical searches, and the AI generated overviews now appearing for jobs like switchboard upgrades draw on the same well structured pages. A contractor with a strong profile and plain, accurate service content is cited by all of them.

Rankings for suburb level searches tend to move inside three to four months, with organic calls arriving between months four and six. City wide terms take longer. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either chasing searches nobody makes or using tactics that end in a penalty.

You can claim your Google Business Profile, ask for reviews and post updates. The full program of research, service pages, technical fixes and link building takes sustained weekly effort, and your hours are worth more on the tools. We also run SEO training for contractors who want to handle more in-house.

Yes, and the ones who started earlier hold the map packs now. The difficulty score Ahrefs gives “electrician Perth” reflects established competition. Suburb level and compliance searches are where a newer entrant gets traction first.

For switchboard and RCD searches in Perth the AI overviews are already showing, so the opportunity is immediate, and the compliance pages we build are the kind of source they cite. A citation cannot be promised by anyone. We build for it, measure your AI citations in Ahrefs as well as your rankings, and cover both in our meetings with you rather than in a report.
